The village war memorial (the Cross of Sorrow) is located to the east of the church. A plaque under the east window of the church lists five villagers names from WW1 and one from WW2. The following provides some information to the names.
Pte George Herbert Corbett (1445 & 14459) served in the 3rd Battalion, Coldstream Guards. Died 15th September 1916 (age 24). Buried at Somme (Thiepval Memorial), France. Memorial panels 7D & 8D.
Son of Joseph & Sarah Corbett, of Hargrave.
Pte George E Farr (20032) served in 2nd Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment. Died 8th February 1916 (age 22). Buried at Ration Farm Military Cemetery, La Chapelle-D'armentičres, France. Memorial I.C.10.
Son of Charles Farr, of Chelveston.
Pte Walter Charles Hulatt (200974) served in the 1st / 4th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment. Died 28th November 1917. Buried at the Ramleh War Cemetery, Israel. Grave B72.
Gunner Frank Morris (under the name of Charles Burrows). (37364 & 29492) served in the Royal Field Artillery and the 2nd Battalion East Lancashire Regiment. Died 9th April 1918 (age 33). Buried at Premont British Cemetery, Aisne, France. Plot IV Row B Grave 23.
Son of Job & Elizabeth Morris, of High Street, Chelveston.
Pte Harry Morris (48614) served in the 1st Battalion Royal Fusiliers. Died 31st July 1917 (age 19). Buried at Ypres (Menin Gate Memorial), France. Memorial panels 6 & 8.
Son of Alfred & Emma Morris, of Water Yard, Chelveston.
Sgt Stanley Eric Odell (3968060) served in the 4th Battalion Welch Regiment. Died 25th February 1945 (age 25). Buried at the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Kleve, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Plot 51 Row H Grave 3.
Son of James Henry & Selena Odell and husband of Betty Odell, of Chelveston.
