In 2007, both Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire County Councils carried out public consultations of the future strategy and locations for mineral excavations and waste processing facilities in their respective counties.

For Chelveston, the proposals that most affect the parish are the two “halves” of the former airfield site, identified as WA8 (for NCC) and WSD33 (for BCC).

In both cases it had been put forward for handling 150,000 tonnes annually of non-inert waste (i.e. not landfill).

BCC/CBC MWDF.

The Central Bedfordshire Council (successor to the Bedfordshire County Council) consulted on the Waste Core Strategy Preferred Options proposals in July 2010.

NCC MWDF.

The MWDF Core Strategy Preferred Options consultation generated over 1,400 responses (mainly site specific), with approx 337 objections to WA8 (Chelveston).

In 2009, NCC consulted on the final locations for the minerals and waste sites. Chelveston is rural site WS12.  Following the public examination by a planning inspector in October 2010, the plans were adopted by NCC in March 2011.

In 2010, the MWDF Core Strategy was adopted by NCC after public examination before a planning inspector in May 2010.

NCC consulted on the Control and Management of Development plan prior to submission in August 2010. Following the public examination by a planning inspector in January 2011, the plans were adopted by NCC in June 2011.

In 2011, NCC consulted on a review of the Development and Implementation Principles plan in June 2011.  This review sought to impose catchment areas on how far waste could travel for new applications (based on the proximity principle of the Core Strategy). The plans were adopted by NCC in October 2011
