Trees and hedges are the important to the environment and countryside. Accordingly, some trees in the parish are protected with a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) which limit the activities' that can be undertaken to them without permission. However even trees without a TPO require a license from the Forestry Commission before they can be felled unless they meet one of the exceptions. For more information click here.
The effect of a TPO is to prohibit the cutting down, uprooting, topping, lopping, wilful damage, or wilful destruction of trees without the Local Planning Authority's (LPA) consent.
The LPA may make a TPO if it appears “expedient in the interests of amenity to make provision for the preservation of trees or woodlands in their area”
Protected trees in the parish. Four TPO’s are in force and apply to both trees and woodlands in the parish, including Willow, Ash, Hawthorn, Wellingtonia, Sequoia, Chestnut, Lime and Beech.
Temporary TPO 247 (2007) has been removed, as the 3 Ash trees near Manor Farm, Caldecott were found to be in poor condition on inspection.
